Today has become an important day for railway passengers because train travel has become more expensive from today. According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Railways on Thursday, an increase in ticket prices will be implemented. For general category tickets for distances over 215 km, there is an increase of one paisa per kilometer, and for non-AC and AC classes in mail/express trains, there is an increase of two paise per kilometer.
The ministry announced this increase on December 21 and stated that it will be implemented from today, December 26. This is the second time in a year that railway fares have been revised. The previous fare increase was made in July. The ministry stated that the reason for this decision is to maintain a balance between the sustainability of tickets for passengers and the sustainability of operations.
The revised fare increase will not apply to suburban services and seasonal tickets. Rational changes in ticket rates have been made class-wise for ordinary non-AC services on both suburban and non-suburban routes. There is no increase for second class general travel up to 215 km, so short-distance daily commuters will not be affected.
According to the fare increase details:
For travel from 216 to 750 km, the ticket will increase by 5 rupees.
10 rupees increase for travel from 751 to 1250 km.
15 rupees increase for travel from 1251 to 1750 km.
20 rupees increase for travel from 1751 to 2250 km.
This revised fare increase will also apply to other special trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Garib Rath, Jan Shatabdi, Antyodaya, Gatimaan, Yuva Express, and Namo Bharat Rapid Rail. There has been no change in reservation fees, superfast charges, and GST. For safe travel, passengers need to book tickets considering the new fare increase.
