The parliamentary budget session is currently underway, and in this session, there is intense conflict between the central government and the opposition parties. On Friday, there was a major uproar in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Opposition party MPs disrupted proceedings by loudly protesting against the government. Due to this chaos, the proceedings of both houses were adjourned until Monday, February 9.
The proceedings in the Lok Sabha on Friday were disrupted right from the Question Hour. As soon as the Question Hour began, members of the opposition party gathered in the well of the House holding posters and placards. Ignoring the Speaker's instructions, they raised slogans against the government. Reacting to this situation, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed strong displeasure. “If you want to systematically create a deadlock and do not wish to uphold the dignity of the Parliament, then I cannot run the House like this,” he stated in clear terms.
The Speaker of the Lok Sabha urged the opposition members to return to their seats and prohibited any kind of disruption in the well. However, the opposition members continued their sloganeering. As a result, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned until 12 noon. During this time, the opposition MPs expressed their outrage against the government by chanting slogans like “Victory of the Constitution.”
The Lok Sabha proceedings resumed at 12 noon, but there was no change in the situation. Opposition MPs once again took to the well with placards in hand and started shouting slogans. The Speaker's appeal was again unsuccessful. Finally, considering the chaos in the House, it was decided to adjourn the Lok Sabha proceedings directly until 11 am on Monday, February 9.
Meanwhile, the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha initially started relatively peacefully. During Zero Hour, members raised various public interest issues. Several MPs presented private member bills. Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi introduced two private member bills related to airfares, passenger facilities, and animal husbandry in the Upper House. At this time, Deputy Chairman Harivansh was presiding.
However, later Congress MP Jairam Ramesh demanded adjournment of proceedings with the consent of the House. Deputy Chairman Harivansh sought the opinion of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on this. Kiren Rijiju also agreed to the proposal. Subsequently, with the consent of the House, the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 11 AM on February 9. Against the backdrop of the budget session, signs of intensifying conflict between the opposition and the government are evident, and everyone is keenly watching what the atmosphere in Parliament will be like next week.
