As the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) continues to take a strong stand on issues related to the Marathi language, State Minister for Marathi Language Uday Samant met with MNS President Raj Thackeray today to discuss ongoing developments and possible regulatory measures.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Samant said, “Certain developments are currently taking place in Maharashtra regarding the use of the Marathi language. In this context, Raj Saheb invited me for a discussion in my capacity as the Minister for Marathi Language. Before coming here, I informed Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and obtained his permission.”
During the conversation, Raj Thackeray raised concerns about the use of Marathi in various institutions, especially banks, and highlighted the need for regulation. “Raj Saheb offered us some valuable suggestions on how to regulate the implementation of Marathi in these institutions,” Samant stated.
Highlighting the linguistic diversity of Maharashtra, Samant acknowledged that Marathi speakers are being treated unfairly in certain places. He noted that Raj Thackeray believes a legal framework should be introduced to ensure the protection and promotion of Marathi.
“I will convey the details of this discussion to the Chief Minister and both Deputy Chief Ministers. A committee has already been formed for the promotion of the Marathi language. We will soon convene a meeting of this committee to discuss what actions should be taken against anyone violating regulations related to Marathi,” Samant added.
The meeting signifies a potential shift toward stricter language enforcement policies and reaffirms the government’s commitment to uphold the prominence of Marathi in Maharashtra’s administrative and institutional systems.
