In a deeply disturbing incident following the recent Vaishnavi Hagavane case, a 35-year-old married woman, Varsha Tukaram Ranadive, died by suicide in the Dhankawadi area of Pune. According to police reports, she took this extreme step after enduring continuous mental harassment from her in-laws. The tragic incident has sparked public outrage and widespread condemnation, particularly on social media platforms.
Varsha's father, Tukaram Ranadive, filed a complaint at the Sahakarnagar Police Station, alleging that his daughter was subjected to persistent harassment by her in-laws. Based on his complaint, police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against four individuals: Ujjwala Bagav (53), Yogesh Bagav (35), Vaishali Bagav (32), and Suvarna Bagav (25).
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Bagav and Ranadive families lived adjacent to each other in the same locality. It is alleged that Ujjwala Bagav and her children routinely taunted and mentally harassed Varsha. This ongoing abuse reportedly drove Varsha to end her life.
The case has created a sensation in the neighborhood and has renewed public discourse on the urgent need to address domestic abuse and mental harassment faced by women. Varsha’s family has called for strict legal action against the accused.
The Sahakarnagar police are currently conducting further investigations. Authorities and activists have reiterated the importance of raising awareness to prevent similar tragedies and protect women's rights in domestic environments.
