A major disturbance broke out at PES College in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar during an examination on Monday (June 30), over the issue of hijab being disallowed on campus. A group of individuals, allegedly linked to a student union associated with the AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen), reportedly stormed into the principal's office and created chaos, demanding answers to the question: “Why aren’t female students allowed to wear hijab?”
The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras, clearly showing the group engaging in aggressive behavior and disrupting the functioning of the college.
College principal Dr. Abhijit Wadekar has filed an official complaint at the Cantonment Police Station, demanding that cases be registered under serious charges including obstruction of government work and criminal intimidation.
In an attempt to verify the group's affiliation, Dr. Wadekar reached out directly to former Member of Parliament Imtiaz Jaleel, who categorically denied any involvement. “I have not sent anyone to the college,” Jaleel stated, distancing himself from the incident.
The controversy has sparked concern in educational circles over campus safety, freedom of expression, and the increasing politicization of student issues. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV evidence and are expected to take further action based on the complaint and available footage.
