Pregnancy is one of the most precious and delicate stages in a woman’s life, requiring special attention to both physical and mental well-being. On the occasion of International Yoga Day 2025, experts are emphasizing the growing importance of prenatal yoga, which not only supports the mother’s health but also plays a vital role in the baby’s development.

Swapnali Pimple, a renowned yoga expert from the Anandi Group, has been providing prenatal yoga training to expectant mothers for several years. She states, “When a pregnant woman practices yoga under proper guidance, it improves blood circulation, which enhances the supply of oxygen and essential nutrients to the baby. This directly supports the baby’s brain development.”

Many pregnant women commonly experience discomforts such as back pain, numbness in the hands and feet, and persistent fatigue. According to Pimple, regular yoga practice can significantly reduce these physical challenges. She highlights that yoga also plays a crucial role in managing emotional health. “Yoga helps reduce stress by releasing ‘happy hormones,’ keeping the mother calm and emotionally balanced — which in turn positively influences the baby,” she explains.

Promoting Natural Birth and Stronger Babies

One of the standout benefits of prenatal yoga is its impact on the delivery process. “Yoga improves pelvic flexibility, which enhances the chances of a natural birth. It also helps women cope better with labor pains,” says Pimple. She further adds, “When a mother is emotionally and physically well, the calcium and other nutrients she consumes are more effectively passed on to the baby. This contributes to a healthier, stronger baby with a lower risk of developmental issues.”

Today, more and more pregnant women are turning to prenatal yoga — not just as a form of gentle exercise, but as a holistic practice that lays a safe and positive foundation for their baby’s journey into the world. As awareness about pregnancy yoga continues to grow, experts recommend that it always be practiced under certified guidance, ensuring safety and maximum benefits for both mother and child.
