Under the 'Ladki Bahin' scheme, it has been revealed that approximately 4.2 million ineligible beneficiaries have availed benefits. The government has initiated the process to recover an estimated fund of 680 billion rupees from these ineligible beneficiaries, according to sources. The scheme was approved on June 29, 2024, and implemented from July 1 following a government decision on June 30. During the period from July 1 to October 15, a total of 25.9 million women submitted applications.

However, several discrepancies were found during the verification of applications. Documents such as Aadhaar card, bank account details, income certificate, proof of residence, school certificate, voter ID, photo, etc., were mandatory when applying. Despite this, many ineligible individuals submitted applications with incomplete documents, false information, or incorrect proof.

Notably, some men benefited from this scheme. It was revealed that women in government jobs also availed the benefits. It was later found that some applicants were from other states. The committees formed on the recommendation of the guardian ministers included district collectors, tehsildars, and non-governmental members. Sources have informed that the amount will be recovered from ineligible beneficiaries based on self-declarations.
