A high-speed car accident occurred on Mumbai’s Coastal Road on Friday evening, when a vehicle overturned inside the southbound tunnel, causing a temporary traffic jam but fortunately no casualties.
The incident took place at around 7:30 PM, amid rainy conditions. According to preliminary reports, the car skidded on the wet road surface and flipped over inside the Coastal Road subway tunnel. The car came to a halt upside down in the middle of the road, severely disrupting traffic flow during peak evening hours.
Thankfully, the airbags were deployed immediately upon impact and the driver was wearing a seatbelt, which prevented serious injury. Authorities confirmed that the driver escaped the accident without any harm.
A taxi rescue team from the Mumbai Central RTO office, which happened to be passing by the site at the time, acted swiftly. They used the emergency landline phone installed on Coastal Road to alert the control room and request an ambulance and a towing vehicle. Their quick response helped manage the situation efficiently and clear the road soon after.
