Maharashtra is once again witnessing a spike in COVID-19 cases, raising concerns across the state’s healthcare system. So far, 681 new cases have been reported, with 467 active patients and seven confirmed deaths, prompting authorities to intensify surveillance and preventive measures.
Among the newly detected cases, two COVID-19 patients have been reported in Malshiras taluka of Solapur district, which has heightened anxiety in the wake of the upcoming Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage. Every year, thousands of devotees from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and other states walk to Pandharpur, making it one of the largest religious gatherings in the region.
Authorities are concerned that a further increase in infections could impact the pilgrimage, and precautionary planning is already underway to mitigate any health risks for participants
In response to the rising numbers, the government has launched inspection drives and health surveys at multiple locations. Special emphasis is being placed on regions with mass gatherings, like the Wari route.
Officials have appealed to the public to remain cautious without panic, urging citizens to:
Wear face masks in public spaces,
Maintain social distancing, and
Avoid unnecessary crowds.
