Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made a significant announcement concerning a possible farmer loan waiver, amid growing pressure from an indefinite hunger strike led by independent MLA Bachchu Kadu.
Bachchu Kadu began his indefinite fast at Gurukunj Mozari in Amravati, raising 17 key demands, with a complete loan waiver for farmers being the most pressing among them. His protest has drawn considerable public and political attention, prompting senior leaders to intervene. In a notable development, BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule visited the protest site yesterday to meet with Kadu. During the visit, Bawankule facilitated a phone call between Kadu and Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis.
Speaking directly to Kadu, Devendra Fadnavis made a major announcement, assuring that a committee will be formed immediately to examine the demand for a loan waiver. He further confirmed that Bachchu Kadu will be a member of this committee, ensuring his direct involvement in the decision-making process.
Fadnavis added that based on the recommendations of the committee, appropriate action will be taken to waive off the loans of eligible farmers. This statement is seen as a significant step toward addressing the agrarian crisis and easing tensions arising from the protest.
