A major decision has been made for the development of the Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the district, and for the safety of devotees. The temple will be closed for three months to ensure that the construction of the assembly hall, stairway, and other works are completed safely, systematically, and on time. This implementation will start from January 9, 2026, but the temple will remain open for devotees during the week of Mahashivratri (February 12 to 18, 2026).
This decision was unanimously made in a joint meeting held on December 23 with the district administration, trustees of Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar Devasthan Institute, local shopkeepers, and villagers. District Collector Jitendra Dudi stated that before the Simhastha Kumbh Mela to be held in Nashik-Trimbakeshwar in 2027, millions of devotees are expected to visit Bhimashankar for darshan. Therefore, it is necessary to complete the work of infrastructure, safe entry-exit, and crowd control on time.
Even though the temple is closed, the daily worship, abhishek, and religious rituals of Shri Bhimashankar will continue as per tradition. However, devotees will not have direct access to the temple or its premises. Strict restrictions will be in place for everyone except construction machinery, authorized officials-employees, and villagers. District Collector Jitendra Dudi has made an emotional appeal to devotees to remain patient and cooperate.
