In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the Marathi film industry, renowned writer and director Ashish Ubale (60) was found dead in the guest room of Ramakrishna Math in Nagpur. Preliminary investigations suggest that financial hardship and mounting debt may have led him to take this extreme step.

According to police sources, Ubale had sent a message to himself on WhatsApp before ending his life, stating that he was taking the decision due to the overwhelming burden of debt. He had visited the monastery to meet his younger brother, Sarang Ubale, who works as a servant there.

After dinner, Ashish Ubale had retired to his room to rest. When there was no response from him by the evening, the staff became concerned. Upon opening the door, his lifeless body was discovered.

The incident has deeply saddened the Marathi entertainment fraternity. Ubale was widely recognized for his contributions to television and film. He had written and directed popular Marathi serials such as Agni, Eka Shwasache Antar, and Kimyagar. His notable films include Gargi, Prema Nathle Chaat Te, and Baburao La Padka. Notably, Gargi was screened at the Carlsberg International Film Festival held in Nagpur in 2009.

Police are continuing their investigation to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding his death. The loss of such a talented artist has left a significant void in the Marathi film and television industry.
