Rail traffic on the Harbour and Trans Harbour lines was severely disrupted on Monday following a technical fault between Nerul and Seawoods railway stations. The disruption has led to the complete suspension of train services between Nerul and Panvel, causing significant inconvenience to thousands of daily commuters.
According to railway officials, the issue arose after a machine wheel reportedly fell off the track, prompting the closure of the route as a safety measure. The technical fault near Nerul has also affected train services between Vashi and Belapur, leaving commuters stranded during peak hours.
The closure of the Nerul–Panvel section resulted in overcrowding at multiple railway stations, with long queues and confusion as passengers scrambled for updates or alternative transport. While services between Vashi and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) remain operational, trains on this route are running 20 to 25 minutes behind schedule.
The situation is equally grim on the Trans Harbour Line, where operations have come to a near standstill, severely affecting commuters traveling to and from Navi Mumbai and Thane. Many passengers reported delays and long waiting times as services ground to a halt.
Maintenance crews have been working on resolving the issue for the past three hours. However, authorities estimate that the repair and restoration work will take a few more hours to complete.
