Incessant rainfall in Kolhapur city and surrounding areas has led to a significant rise in the Panchganga River, which is currently flowing at 26 feet 11 inches — nearing alarming levels. The situation is particularly critical in the dam regions, where water levels have surged rapidly.
The Rajaram Dam, along with 20 other dams in the district, has been reported as completely submerged due to persistent heavy rain over the past few days. The rainfall has caused a dramatic increase in water storage across the dam catchment areas, prompting concerns over potential flooding.
In response to the worsening situation, the district administration has activated emergency protocols and diverted traffic to alternative routes in affected areas to ensure commuter safety. These proactive measures aim to prevent disruption and safeguard residents in low-lying and riverbank regions.
