For the colorful festival of Holi, millions of people from across the country will return to their villages by train, and the Ministry of Railways has announced the operation of 1410 additional special trains in the month of March. Last year, in 2025, 1144 trains were operated for Holi, but this year, considering the passenger rush, this number has been increased by one and a half times.
The railway administration has informed through a statement that they are prepared to increase up to 1500 trains if needed. This will make it easier for passengers going to their hometowns to get tickets and ensure a comfortable journey. The East Central Railway will operate the most trains as the number of passengers is highest in the eastern, central, and northern regions. Western Railway will operate 231, Central Railway 209, South Central Railway 160, and Northern Railway 108 special trains.
The rush of the festive season puts a strain on the railways, so special trains are being run to increase ticket availability. However, with the increase in railway ticket prices effective from today, common passengers are worried about their expenses. Additionally, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Medha Kulkarni has demanded the railway ministry to start a direct Vande Bharat Express between Pune and Delhi.
Since Pune is a hub for education, industry, IT, and defense, they stated that fast premium connectivity to the capital is necessary. The railways have given special emphasis on facilities and safety, and it is expected that travel during the Holi festival will be comfortable.
