In a crucial update for tourists and trekking enthusiasts, Sinhagad Fort will remain closed to the public until June 2 due to an ongoing encroachment removal campaign. Both vehicular and pedestrian access to the historic fort has been temporarily suspended.

Encroachment Action in Progress

Authorities have launched a major drive to remove unauthorized constructions across various parts of the fort. Several illegal structures have already been dismantled, but the process is still underway. In many areas, permanent cement-concrete buildings are yet to be taken down.

Since the use of heavy machinery is not feasible on the hill fort’s terrain, the demolition work is being carried out manually, resulting in slower progress. As a safety precaution, the administration has decided to completely restrict entry from May 31 to June 2.

Deputy Forest Conservator Manoj Barbole confirmed the closure, stating that the decision was made in view of the ongoing operations and the need to ensure public safety. “The fort will remain shut until the clearance work is completed,” he said, adding that the removal process is expected to conclude soon.
