After a brief respite, heavy rainfall has returned to Maharashtra, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue weather alerts across several districts. The forecast warns of heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds beginning June 12.
The state had experienced a few days of dry and sweltering heat, leaving residents reeling from high temperatures. However, the IMD now predicts that rainfall activity will intensify again starting today, bringing much-needed relief along with potential hazards.
An orange alert has been issued for parts of western Maharashtra, including Kolhapur and Sangli, where heavy rainfall is expected today. The intensity of rainfall in these regions is expected to increase significantly.
Meanwhile, the Konkan region has also been placed on high alert, with a red alert issued for Ratnagiri, where extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated. The IMD has warned of thunderstorms and lightning accompanying the downpour in many parts of the state.
Citizens are advised to remain cautious and follow updates from local authorities, especially in regions under red and orange alerts. The administration is on alert to manage potential disruptions and ensure public safety as monsoon activity resumes across the state.
