The Nagpur bench of the High Court has ordered that the results of the municipal council and municipal panchayat elections in Maharashtra be announced on the same day, December 21, 2025. Earlier, the Election Commission had scheduled voting on December 2 and the announcement of results on December 3. However, in some municipal councils, the voting process was postponed due to legal disputes. Therefore, the court decided that all election results will be announced together on December 21.
Yesterday, voting was held for the municipal council and municipal panchayat elections. The results were to be announced today, but as per the order of the High Court, this process has been cancelled. This decision has led to criticism of the functioning of the State Election Commission, and the schedule of the district council and municipal corporation elections has also been affected.
Earlier, the Election Commission had decided to hold municipal council–municipal panchayat elections in the first phase, district council elections in the second phase, and municipal corporation elections in the third phase. However, now after the court order, this schedule may change. The State Election Commission has started preparations to hold municipal corporation elections in the second phase. It is being speculated that the programme for the elections of 29 municipal corporations could be announced between December 15 and 20.
