A high tide is expected to strike the Mumbai coastline this afternoon at 1:03 PM, with waves rising up to 4.88 meters, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned. The alert comes as parts of Maharashtra continue to experience heavy rainfall, raising concerns about flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of the state today. Moreover, this wet spell is expected to continue for the next five days, with both coastal and inland areas on alert. While light to moderate rain is likely in some regions, intense showers in isolated pockets may cause disruption.
Along with Maharashtra, the IMD has issued a rainfall and tide alert for three other states along the west coast, urging administrations to take necessary precautions. Coastal cities, particularly Mumbai, are under close watch due to the convergence of high tides and persistent rain.
In preparation for the expected high tide and possible flooding, the municipal administration has activated its disaster response systems. Pumps, rescue teams, and emergency helplines have been readied to manage any waterlogging or emergencies.
