The issue of pigeon feeding is currently heated in the state. Following the Supreme Court's decision, the municipal corporation has accelerated its actions, leading to strong reactions from various political parties. After the High Court's order, the Supreme Court also upheld the ban on pigeon feeding, prompting the Mumbai Municipal Corporation to expedite enforcement. A fine of 1 lakh 32 thousand rupees was collected from those feeding pigeons during the period from July 1 to August 11.
The most effective action took place in the Dadar area, where a fine of 28,000 rupees was imposed. A significant amount of fines were also collected from the pigeon houses in the Gateway of India and GPO areas, with 12,500 rupees collected from these areas.
Municipal officials clarified that after the Supreme Court refused to halt the action, violations of rules will not be tolerated. An attempt to remove the tarpaulin placed over the pigeon houses will result in a case being filed against those involved, a warning has also been issued.
Although the courts have maintained the ban, the practice of feeding continues in some places. Therefore, the municipality has indicated that the intensity of the action will be increased in the future.
