Nagpur has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the third consecutive day, prompting the district administration to declare a holiday for all private and government schools and colleges in the region. The relentless downpour has led to waterlogging in several parts of the city, causing disruptions in daily life and raising concerns about infrastructure resilience.
According to the Nagpur District Collector’s office, the decision to suspend educational activities was taken in view of the persistent rainfall and water accumulation across the city. The move aims to ensure the safety of students and staff, as continued rainfall could pose additional risks in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Currently, 172.2 mm of rainfall has been recorded in Nagpur. Several areas, including Narendra Nagar, have reported severe waterlogging. Traffic movement has been partially halted on one side of the road due to inundation, while pumping operations are underway on the other side to clear the accumulated water.
The agriculture sector has also borne the brunt of the heavy rains, with reports of crop damage emerging from surrounding rural areas. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are expected to conduct surveys to assess the extent of the damage.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for continued moderate to heavy rain in the Vidarbha region over the next 24–48 hours. Citizens have been advised to stay indoors unless necessary and to follow updates from local authorities.
