In preparation for the revered Ashadhi Wari Palkhi procession, the Pune police administration has taken extensive security measures, deploying approximately 8,000 police personnel to ensure the safety of devotees and the smooth conduct of the event.
The palanquins of Sant Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Shri Tukaram Maharaj are scheduled to pass through Pune city today and tomorrow as part of the annual religious pilgrimage. To prevent any untoward incidents and manage the large gathering of devotees, law enforcement agencies have intensified their presence across key routes.
In light of the procession, significant traffic changes have been announced in Pune district’s rural areas. District Collector Jitendra Dudi has issued official directives outlining the transport plan.
On June 22, Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj's palanquin will halt at Saswad. Consequently, vehicular movement from Pune to Saswad via Dive Ghat and Bopdev Ghat will be suspended from 2:00 AM on June 22 until midnight on June 24.
Alternative Route (Pune to Saswad): Traffic will be redirected via Khadi Machine Chowk – Katraj – Kapurhol.
Alternative Route (Saswad to Pune): Vehicles will be diverted via Garade – Khed Shivapur.
Further restrictions will be in place on June 24 and 25, as the palanquin reaches Jejuri and Walhe. Traffic on the Pune – Saswad – Jejuri – Walhe – Nira route will remain closed from 2:00 AM on June 24 to midnight on June 25.
Suggested Diversion: Motorists are advised to use the alternate route via Zendewadi – Pargaon Memane – Supe – Morgaon – Nira.
The administration has appealed to residents and commuters to cooperate by following the traffic diversions and utilizing the planned alternate routes. The smooth execution of the palkhi ceremony, which holds deep spiritual significance for devotees, relies on collective effort and adherence to the guidelines issued by authorities.
