Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Avinash Jadhav was taken into custody by police in the early hours , just hours before he was scheduled to lead a protest march in Mira-Bhayander.
According to reports, Jadhav was detained by the Kashimira police at around 3:00 AM, ahead of the MNS-led march that was slated to begin at 10:00 AM. The protest was being organized in response to rising tensions in the region over language-related issues.
The developments follow an incident in Mira Road where MNS workers assaulted a sweet shop owner for allegedly not speaking Marathi. The episode triggered sharp reactions across the local business community.
In retaliation, on July 3, a group of local traders organized a protest march, raising slogans such as “Jai Marwari” and “Jai Gujarati” to assert their identity and express discontent over the attack.
Against this volatile backdrop, the MNS had planned its own protest march in Mira-Bhayander on July 8, with Avinash Jadhav scheduled to lead the rally. However, the police intervened preemptively by taking Jadhav into custody before the event could commence.
The detention has led to heightened political tensions in the region, with speculation mounting over the state government's stance and the police's preventive measures.
