Amid rising temperatures and growing concerns over water scarcity, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to take strict action against residents and housing societies found wasting water. The Water Supply Department has announced that punitive measures, including disconnection of water taps, will be enforced to curb irresponsible water usage.

The decision comes after reports revealed widespread misuse of water across several parts of the city. Common issues cited include overflowing water tanks, absence of automatic valves, and excessive water use for watering gardens, washing vehicles, and spraying water on roads. Officials warn that such practices may aggravate the city's already strained water supply.

Although the Water Supply Department had previously imposed penalties in some instances, the scale of ongoing wastage has prompted the administration to adopt harsher enforcement measures.

Several large housing societies in areas such as Kharadi, Chandannagar, Lohegaon, Dhanori, and Swagat are already experiencing water shortages. In response, PMC has adopted a zero-tolerance policy to tackle the crisis and ensure equitable water distribution.

PMC officials have urged all residents to cooperate with the civic body and adopt responsible water usage habits. Citizens are encouraged to repair leaking taps, install automatic shut-off valves, and avoid using potable water for non-essential activities.
