A shocking incident was reported from Pune’s Sadashiv Peth area on Friday evening, where a speeding car allegedly driven by a drunk driver rammed into a group of people, injuring at least 12 individuals. The incident took place near Bhave High School, close to a tea stall where a group of MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) aspirants had gathered.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred around 5:45 p.m. when a tourist taxi lost control and ran over students and bystanders standing near the stall. The victims were rushed to Sancheti Hospital and Modak Hospital for immediate medical treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported so far.
Eyewitnesses claim that the driver was in an inebriated state at the time of the accident. The vehicle, reportedly a tourist taxi, struck several parked two-wheelers and pedestrians before coming to a halt.
The accused driver has been identified as Jairam Mule, while the vehicle owner Digambar Yadav Shinde and a co-passenger Rahul Gosavi were also present in the vehicle. All three have been detained by the police, and a case has been registered at the Vishrambaug Police Station.
Police sources confirmed that further investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings. Authorities are also checking CCTV footage from the area to verify the sequence of events.
This incident has raised serious concerns over road safety and the enforcement of drunk driving laws, especially in busy public areas.
