In a crucial update for travelers heading from Pune to Konkan, authorities have announced the closure of Varandha Ghat to all types of vehicular traffic from June 21 to September 30, citing safety risks during the monsoon season.

The route, which connects Bhor (Pune district) to Mahad (Raigad district), is known for its sharp turns and steep inclines, and receives heavy rainfall during the monsoon months. The decision to close the ghat has been taken to prevent accidents and landslides, which are common in this stretch during adverse weather.

As per instructions from the National Highways Construction Department, the District Collector of Raigad, Kishan Javale, has issued a formal notification imposing a complete ban on vehicular movement through the ghat until the end of September. The order covers all categories of vehicles, including private, public, and heavy transport.

The district administration has appealed to commuters and transporters to use alternate routes during this closure period. Authorities are taking proactive steps to ensure public safety and minimize the risk of monsoon-related mishaps in this vulnerable hilly terrain.
