The Baba Bhide Bridge in Pune, which is always in the news during the monsoon season, will be closed for all types of vehicular traffic from April 20, 2025 to June 6, 2025. During this period, the construction work of the pedestrian footbridge connecting Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station to Madhya Peth will be done. This will make it easier for the residents of Narayan Peth, Shaniwar Peth and Laxmi Road to reach the Metro Station.

Although the bridge is closed, the riverside road next to it will remain open for traffic. During this period, the Municipal Corporation has appealed to commuters to use the wooden bridge, Balgandharva bridge and Z Bridge as alternative routes and cooperate with the administration.

The bridge in front of Poona Hospital will be available only for two-wheelers. The police administration has challenged drivers to proceed from Tilak Chowk while going from Deccan PMT station to Narayan Peth.

Why is the Bhide Bridge in Pune always in the news during the monsoon? When the level of the Mula River rises, water flows over the bridge and therefore, for safety reasons, the bridge is closed for a few days. This causes traffic congestion in the area. Punekars speculate that the rain has become heavy after water flows over the Bhide Bridge.

The real and official name of Bhide Bridge is "Baba Bhide Bridge".

This bridge connects the Narayan Peth and Shaniwar Peth areas of Pune and is built over the Mula River. It is named after freedom fighter and social worker Baba Bhide. However, locals in Pune usually know it simply as "Bhide Bridge".
