It is observed that the atmosphere in Kolhapur has heated up due to the elephant Mahadevi. Citizens are angry because the elephant Mahadevi from Nandani Math was sent to Vantara in Gujarat. In this context, commentary has been made in Saamana. Saamana states, 'The elephant Mahadevi, also known as Madhuri, from Nandani Math in Kolhapur has touched many hearts across the country. She brought tears to many eyes. An elderly elephant brought tears to the eyes of the rugged and boisterous people of Kolhapur. This led to nationwide research on who this Madhuri is. Madhuri was in the Jain Math of Nandani for about forty years. She participated in all religious activities of the Math. She was dear to the devotees who visited there. The Math took care of Madhuri, but now the animal welfare organization 'PETA' has decided that the tired Madhuri needs rest and more care. The matter went to the High Court and Supreme Court, and the court also accepted PETA's argument. The Ambani family runs an initiative called 'Vantara' for sick and elderly animals in Jamnagar, Gujarat. When the time came to take Madhuri to Vantara, the entire village of Nandani and the people of Kolhapur blocked the way and started crying. They began to block Madhuri's path. Their cries brought tears to Madhuri's eyes. Her feet were reluctant to move as she left behind forty years of companionship and kinship. This raises the question of whether Madhuri was forcibly taken to Gujarat.'
'Madhuri was pushed into a kind of animal retirement home, which the people of Kolhapur opposed. Thousands of people took to the streets for Madhuri. They cried out loud, meaning there was no need to send her from Nandani Math to the animal retirement home. The public started a movement and a signature campaign for Madhuri to return from the forest to Kolhapur. Nandani Math belongs to the Jain community, and currently, most Jains are supporters of the BJP, but in the Madhuri case, Jain monks and religious leaders warned against the BJP. Acharya Gundhar Nandiji Maharaj angrily said, 'Devendra Fadnavis, you are a cruel Chief Minister. I condemn your life. A person who cannot wipe the tears of society and animals will not be able to sustain his government for long. He will lose power and will not progress much in life. Devendra Fadnavis, you are working sitting on Ambani's lap.' Acharya Gundhar Nandiji Maharaj cursed Fadnavis and his government in this manner and expressed his anger. The Jain community is generally restrained, peaceful, non-violent, and religious, but the community became extremely aggressive and angry over Madhuri the elephant, and they organized a large movement in Kolhapur to return Reliance company's 'Jio mobile cards.' People said if they set their minds to it, they could bring down the price of Reliance shares. In many other ways, the Jain community in Kolhapur is agitating for Madhuri to return. In Kolhapur, Ichalkaranji, and Sangli areas, the Jain community is a significant voter base. Therefore, leaders of all parties are showing special efforts for Madhuri. This compassion for living beings is necessary. However, otherwise, farmers are dying of hunger and debt, women are being abused, and the youth are suffering due to unemployment. No one sheds tears over these issues, but in the Madhuri case, many people's hearts are breaking with grief for political gain, it seems. The matter has even been taken to Delhi.'
'People from Nandani Math are also fighting. This Madhuri from Nandani Math attacked the chief priest of the 'Matha' in December 2017. Madhuri was sent outside Maharashtra at least fifteen times for religious festivals in other states. She was also paraded in the Moharram procession. Only the true 'Math' people know the truth. In the meantime, Madhuri's balance was disturbed, so she was handed over to the forest department for treatment, and Jain farmer leader Raju Shetty recommended it. There was nothing wrong with that. Treating an animal, sending it to the right place for care is the compassion towards animals. In Ambani's 'Vantara' project, many sick, injured, and elderly animals from across the country are cared for. Just because this project is Ambani's, there is no point in criticizing it. In 1883, Parsi industrialist Sir Dinshaw Manekji Petit established a bullock and horse hospital in Parel, Mumbai. This hospital was built for the care of animals. Many industrialists spend a portion of their profits on animal care. The Tata group and the Wadia group have been doing this work for many years. Now if Ambani is doing it, there is no point in criticizing it. There is a 'nursing home' in Sri Lanka that takes care of sick and injured elephants, and its work is worth seeing. The only question is, 'PETA' raised the issue of Madhuri from Nandani Math and sent this elephant to Ambani's Vantara in the name of compassion. Is this the only work left for 'PETA' in India? Stray dogs have increased on India's roads, garbage dumps, cities, and villages. They don't get food or water, causing trouble for pedestrians. 'PETA' and Vantara should take responsibility for the care of these stray dogs.
'Stray cows and bulls roam freely on the streets. Cows do not get proper food. Plastic is found in their stomachs. Cow shelters are established, and the politics of Hindutva continues, but animals suffer due to lack of fodder and water. It is surprising that 'PETA' does not take care of these cows and bulls like Madhuri, and Vanatara does not serve these animals. If you do not show the same compassion for other animals as shown for Madhuri the elephant at Nandani Math, then the drama regarding 'Madhuri' must be considered a play. Human life has become difficult. Due to poverty and hunger, humans are eating, killing, and tearing each other apart. The current rulers of the 'Gujarat Pattern' are responsible for this. Those who voted heavily for the Gujarat Pattern government are crying, fighting, and cursing for Madhuri at Nandani Math. May Madhuri's fortune benefit 140 crore people, this is the prayer at the feet of God! Madhuri has gone to Gujarat today. Kolhapur residents are fighting to bring her to Maharashtra. Best wishes for their struggle,' it is said in the editorial.
