Travel between Mumbai and Nagpur is set to become significantly faster and more convenient, with the final phase of the ambitious Samruddhi Mahamarg being inaugurated today. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will officially open the last 76-kilometer stretch from Igatpuri to Aamne, marking the completion of the 701-kilometer high-speed expressway.
This final leg of the expressway includes the widest and longest six-lane, double-tube tunnel of the entire project, measuring an impressive 35 meters. Although construction was completed in April, the stretch had been awaiting formal inauguration until now. It will be opened to vehicular traffic later today.
The Samruddhi Mahamarg, also known as the Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway, has already seen 625 kilometers opened in previous phases. With today's launch, the entire expressway will now be operational, offering a transformative change in intercity travel across Maharashtra.
Once a grueling 16-hour road journey, the commute between Mumbai and Nagpur will now take just eight hours, providing a major boost to trade, tourism, and regional connectivity.
The inauguration ceremony will witness the presence of several high-ranking state officials. Alongside Chief Minister Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar will also attend. Cabinet Ministers Chhagan Bhujbal, Dada Bhuse, Manikrao Kokate, Narhari Zirwal, and Minister of State Meghna Bordikar are expected to join, along with local MLAs and MPs from the region.
The completion of the Samruddhi Mahamarg marks a milestone in Maharashtra’s infrastructure development and is poised to enhance mobility, economic activity, and logistical efficiency across the state.
