Shamal Sawant

This year's 99th All India Marathi Literature Conference will be held in Satara after 32 years. This decision was taken unanimously at the meeting of the All India Marathi Literature Conference held in Pune. The selection of Satara was confirmed after the venue selection committee visited some places between June 5 and 7. The responsibility of coordination has been entrusted to the Shahupuri branch of Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad and the Mavla Foundation.

This will be the fourth time Satara hosts the prestigious conference. Earlier editions were chaired by renowned literary figures—Raghunath Pandurang Karandikar in 1905, Navi Gadgil in 1962, and Vidyadhar Gokhale in 1993. The upcoming Sammelan will continue this rich literary legacy and historical tradition.

The event will be held at the expansive Chhatrapati Shahu Stadium, which covers 14 acres and includes a gallery capable of accommodating 25,000 spectators. In addition to the main stage, two sub-mandaps will be set up. The event will also feature book exhibitions, poetry gatherings (kavi sammelans), ghazal sessions, seminars, and well-organized catering facilities. For visitors, parking arrangements will be provided at the 8-acre Police Parade Ground.

A steering committee has been formed to oversee preparations, consisting of prominent individuals including Prof. Milind Joshi, Guruyya Swami, Sunita Raje Pawar, Vinod Kulkarni, Dr. Ujjwala Mehendale, Pradeep Date, and Dada Gore.

The successful bid to host the Sammelan in Satara comes after twelve years of continuous efforts. The event is expected to be a grand celebration of Marathi literature, culture, and language, drawing writers, poets, scholars, and literature enthusiasts from across Maharashtra and India.
