Former Supreme Court Justice Sudarshan Reddy has been officially announced as the candidate for the Vice President election by the INDIA Front. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge held a press conference to provide this information. “All opposition parties have unanimously decided on Reddy's name. This decision strengthens democracy,” said Kharge.

Reddy is considered a distinguished personality in the field of law and order. Born in 1946, Reddy began his legal career in 1971. He held important positions such as Government Advocate in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Additional Standing Counsel for the Central Government, and Legal Advisor to Osmania University. In 1995, he became a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. He was appointed Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court in 2005 and a judge of the Supreme Court in 2007. After retiring in 2011, he took charge as the first Lokayukta of Goa in 2013, but resigned within a few months due to personal reasons.

Meanwhile, the ruling NDA has already announced its candidate, confirming the name of the current Governor of Maharashtra and senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, C.P. Radhakrishnan. Radhakrishnan is 67 years old and has considerable experience in organizational politics. Given the NDA's majority based on the votes of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, Radhakrishnan's victory is considered certain in this election.

The last date for filing nominations for the election is August 21, and voting will take place on September 9. This election was announced after the current Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21 due to health reasons. Therefore, B. Sudarshan Reddy from the India alliance and C.P. Radhakrishnan from the NDA will be in the fray for the Vice President election.
