Before the Thane Municipal Elections, the Thackeray brothers have faced a major setback. The Shinde group's Shiv Sena has won four candidates unopposed. This development occurred before the elections scheduled for January 15, stirring the political atmosphere in Thane.
From Ward No. 18, Jayshree Phatak of the Shinde group was elected unopposed. She is the wife of MLA Ravindra Phatak. This victory was made possible as Sneha Nagare of the Thackeray group suddenly withdrew. Sukhada More was elected unopposed from Ward 18 C. Vaishali Pawar of Congress withdrew, while the nomination of Prachi Ghadge of MNS was declared invalid.
Ekta Bhoir was elected unopposed from Ward 17 A. No major party fielded a candidate and independents withdrew. Ram Repale was elected unopposed from Ward 18 D. Vikrant Ghag of the Thackeray group withdrew, as did Congress and independents. So far, four candidates from the Shinde group have been elected unopposed.
There will be 131 corporators in Thane Municipal Corporation. There are a total of 33 wards, with four corporators elected in 32 wards and three corporators in one ward. A majority requires 66 corporators. Voting will take place on January 15 and counting on January 16. These unopposed victories have strengthened the Shinde faction, while the Thackeray faction and MNS have been impacted.
