In the special meeting organized today for the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation, as expected, the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) has triumphed. BVA's candidate Ajiv Yashwant Patil was elected by a majority for the mayoral post. As soon as the victory was announced, the hall echoed with the cheers of BVA's 'Whistle' symbol and the sound of whistles.
Many candidates entered the fray for the mayoral post, but the main contest was between BVA and BJP. Ajiv Yashwant Patil, Prafull Sane, and Nishad Chorghe from BVA had filed nominations. Against them, BJP's Adv. Darshana Tripathi-Kotak was in the fray. The special meeting began with the scrutiny of nomination papers, followed by a deadline for withdrawal of nominations. In the final voting, BVA outpaced BJP.
For the post of Deputy Mayor, Marshall Dominic Lopes and Kanhaiya Bhoir from BVA had filed nominations. From BJP, Narayan Manjrekar and others were in the fray. In the voting, BVA's Marshall Lopes was confirmed victorious. This double success made BVA workers happy, and celebrations were held outside the municipal headquarters with the throwing of gulal.
Under the leadership of Hitendra Thakur, BVA has maintained social harmony and inclusiveness by giving representation to various communities in the form of Mayor Ajiv Patil and Deputy Mayor Marshall Lopes. This selection is considered to have strengthened the party's hold for upcoming elections. Although BJP had to face defeat, BVA's dominance remains intact.
