Vidarbha Rain Update: Torrential Downpour Havoc; Transport Disrupted, Crops Damaged

In the districts of Buldhana, Yavatmal, and Chandrapur in Vidarbha, continuous heavy rains for two days have created a flood situation. In Donggaon, Buldhana, the Kanchanganga River overflowed, causing the Mumbai-Nagpur highway to be blocked for 3 hours. In Mehkar taluka, due to heavy rains, many villages have lost contact, and crops along the riverbanks are submerged. In Mehkar taluka alone, rainfall has been recorded between 67 to 104 mm.

Meanwhile, due to heavy rainfall in Yavatmal and Adilabad district of Telangana, the gates of Isapur and Satnala dams were opened. As a result, the Penganga and Wardha rivers flooded, and many roads in Korpana, Chandrapur taluka were submerged, halting traffic. Many routes including Korpana-Gandhinagar, Jewra-Gadeghat, Pipri-Murti were closed. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded as water flowed over the Dhanora-Bhoygaon bridge.

Heavy rainfall was recorded in 28 circles of Yavatmal district, with Umarkhed, Pusad, and Mahagaon talukas being the most affected. A preliminary estimate suggests that crops on 14,736 hectares in this district have been damaged. Devotees who had gone to Mahur were also stranded as water flooded the Dhanoda bridge.

In Amravati district, 321 houses in 18 villages have collapsed, and 3920 hectares of land have been affected. In this entire situation, there is a possibility of significant damage to cotton, soybean, and pigeon pea crops. The administration has issued a warning to the villages along the riverbank.
