ICC Chairman Jay Shah referred to Indian all-rounder Rohit Sharma as the 'captain of the Indian team' at an event, a video of which is currently going viral on social media. Rohit Sharma's facial expressions in response to this statement were noteworthy, sparking intense discussion among cricket fans. Rohit Sharma is currently active only in One Day Internationals, having already retired from T20 and Test formats. Yet, Jay Shah referred to him as the captain, which does not align with Rohit's current status.

In this program, Jay Shah recalled the successful campaigns under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. He said that Rohit Sharma must be called a captain because under his leadership, India has won the ICC title twice. Recalling the 2023 ODI World Cup, Jay Shah mentioned that at that time, Team India had stormed into the finals by winning ten consecutive matches. Although they couldn't win the trophy, the Indian team won everyone's hearts. Also, mentioning the Test match in Rajkot in February 2024, he said that India not only won hearts but also played a strong game.

Additionally, Jay Shah mentioned more successes under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. India made its mark on the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy, where Rohit was the captain. Rohit is one of the select Indian captains to win two ICC trophies. While listening to this, the emotions on Rohit Sharma's face went viral on social media, with many linking it to Rohit's current team situation.

Considering Rohit Sharma's current situation, the one-day captaincy was handed over to Shubman Gill during the Australia tour. He participated in the one-day series against South Africa. Now his focus is on the three-match one-day series starting in New Zealand from January 11. It is anticipated that Rohit will once again showcase his batting brilliance in this series.

Rohit's Focus on Future World Cup

Rohit Sharma's real target is the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be held in South Africa. Currently, he is focusing on fitness and performance. The Indian management is speculated to include both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in this World Cup, but it has not been officially announced. Jay Shah's statement has sparked new discussions about Rohit's future role, and cricket fans are eagerly waiting.
