The 26th anniversary of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) was observed yesterday, with separate celebrations organized by both factions of the party. Ajit Pawar’s NCP held its commemorative event at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune.

However, the absence of senior leaders such as Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil, and Dattatreya Bharne from the event raised eyebrows in political circles and sparked speculation about internal dynamics within the faction.

In response to media questions and growing chatter, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar addressed the issue directly. He clarified that while the main event was held in Pune, the party had organized parallel anniversary programs across different parts of Maharashtra. As a result, not all leaders and office bearers were able to attend the Pune gathering.

He stated:

“Chhagan Bhujbal had already planned an overseas tour. Dattatray Bharne was also scheduled for foreign travel. Dilip Walse Patil could not attend due to health issues. That is why these senior leaders were not present at today’s event.”

Pawar downplayed the significance of their absence and reiterated that the party remains united in its purpose and celebrations.

Meanwhile, the Sharad Pawar-led faction also celebrated the NCP’s foundation day separately, underscoring the continued division within the party following last year’s dramatic split. Both groups now observe their own organizational milestones while vying for political relevance and public support.

The divergent events and noticeable absences have further fueled discussions around the future trajectory of both factions as Maharashtra moves closer to its next electoral battles.
