After the announcement of the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025 tournament, many questions are being raised about the selection committee. Players like Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who have consistently performed well, have been left out of the team. On the other hand, fans are expressing surprise as Harshit Rana, who has played only one T20 international match, has been given a direct opportunity.

On August 19, BCCI selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar held a press conference to announce the 15-member squad. Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in this tournament, with Shubman Gill as the vice-captain. The return of Jasprit Bumrah has strengthened the bowling department. After questions were raised about the selection of Harshit Rana, captain Suryakumar Yadav defended him. “Harshit has performed impressively in the IPL. He has the potential for strong performances, and we have faith in him,” said Surya.

However, due to the slow pitches in the UAE, it is considered difficult for Harshit to secure a place in the playing eleven. There is a higher likelihood of Arshdeep Singh getting a chance alongside Bumrah. Harshit took three wickets in his only T20 match.

Meanwhile, the decision to play the Asia Cup matches in the T20 format has been made with the World Cup 2026 in mind. Therefore, the Indian team will have a great opportunity to determine the combination in the upcoming 15 matches. The exclusion of Shreyas Iyer has led to dissatisfaction with the selection committee in cricket circles.
