The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the schedule for the 2026 T20 World Cup. This prestigious tournament will be hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka starting from February 7. A total of 20 teams will participate in this grand event. Defending champions India will strive to retain their title, with Rohit Sharma once again leading the team. In 2024, India defeated South Africa to claim the championship, and now ‘Team India’ has the opportunity to defend it on home soil.
According to the group combinations, India is in Group A along with Pakistan, USA, Netherlands, and Namibia. Group B includes Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe, and Oman. England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Italy are in Group C, while New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan, Canada, and UAE are in Group D.
India's campaign will begin on February 7 in Mumbai against America. After that, on February 12, India will face Namibia in the second match in Delhi. The most anticipated India-Pakistan match will take place on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. According to the agreement between the ICC, BCCI, and the Pakistan Cricket Board, matches between the two countries will be held at neutral venues. India will play its last group stage match on February 18 in Ahmedabad.
The first semi-final of the tournament will be held on March 4 in either Kolkata or Colombo. If Pakistan reaches the semi-finals, the match will be played in Colombo. Otherwise, the match will be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The same rule will apply for the final match as well. If Pakistan reaches the final, the championship match will be held in Colombo, otherwise it will be held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
ICC President Jay Shah stated that matches will be held at five venues in India — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. In Sri Lanka, matches will be played at R. Premadasa and S.S.C. Club in Colombo, as well as at Pallekele Stadium in Kandy. This comprehensive arrangement is expected to make the 2026 T20 World Cup exciting and historic.
