As political speculation intensifies over a possible reunion between Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray for a united Maharashtra front, legendary singer Asha Bhosle offered a cryptic yet headline-grabbing response when asked about the matter.
The veteran singer was in Mumbai to pay tribute to her late husband and iconic music composer R.D. Burman on his birth anniversary. During her visit to his residence, she briefly interacted with the media, and her remarks have since become a subject of political chatter.
When asked about the buzz surrounding Raj and Uddhav Thackeray possibly joining hands again, Asha Bhosle avoided a direct answer and simply said, “I only know Ashish Shelar, I don’t know anyone else.”
Ashish Shelar, Maharashtra’s Cultural Affairs Minister, was present at the event, and Bhosle’s response is being seen as a tactful way to steer clear of any political controversy. She also declined to comment on the ongoing debate over the imposition of Hindi in the state, stating clearly that she does not wish to participate in any political discussion.
What makes her statement more intriguing is her long-standing association with the Thackeray family. A few months ago, Bhosle had attended one of Raj Thackeray’s public events and publicly praised him. Given this history, her seemingly neutral stance is now being interpreted in various ways by political observers.
While Bhosle may have chosen diplomacy over directness, her comment has certainly added a layer of curiosity to the evolving political narrative in Maharashtra.
