The victim, Mayur Ramchandra Mali, a resident of Kasar Galli in Tasgaon, was known in the area for his active involvement in social work. On Friday night, he returned home after spending time with friends. By Saturday afternoon, a fire was reported at his residence.
The Tasgaon Municipal Council's fire brigade arrived swiftly and extinguished the flames, only to discover Mayur’s charred body inside the house. Initially, the incident was believed to be a tragic accident caused by a fire outbreak. However, the post-mortem report and unusual circumstances at the scene raised suspicions, prompting further investigation by the local police.
During interrogation, Mayur’s mother, Sangeeta Mali (50), and his sister, Kajal Mali (19), reportedly confessed to murdering him. According to police sources, they admitted to administering sedatives to Mayur and then bludgeoning him with a stone. They later set the house on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence and stage the incident as an accident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that frequent domestic disputes may have led to the murder. However, police are continuing their inquiries to understand the exact motive and whether others were involved.
Mayur’s untimely and brutal death has triggered widespread grief and outrage in the community. Well-known for his commitment to social causes, he had earned respect and admiration in Tasgaon. His murder at the hands of his own family has left the public deeply disturbed.
The Tasgaon Police are now pursuing additional forensic and technical evidence and have promised a thorough investigation to ensure justice.
