Decision due to frequent technical glitches in monorail service
(Mumbai Monorail) Due to frequent technical glitches in the Mumbai Monorail service, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has finally decided to halt this service for some time.
There have been several technical difficulties with the monorail. On August 19, during the rain, hundreds of passengers were stranded near Mysore Colony. On the same day, another incident occurred where 200 passengers were stuck in a train near Acharya Atre Nagar station. The monorail running from Wadala to Saat Rasta was currently the only option for passengers.
However, recently on September 15, a train was stuck between Antop Hill and GTBN station, during which 17 passengers were rescued. As a result, a decision has been made to halt the service for safety reasons and undertake extensive maintenance and improvements.
During this period, new technology will be installed on the monorail route, including the CBTC signaling system. Additionally, testing of electronic interlocking, train detection systems, and other advanced mechanisms is underway. According to MMRDA, these works will enhance passenger safety and make the service more reliable in the future.
Additionally, under the 'Make in India' initiative, 10 new trains have been purchased in collaboration with Medha Company and SMH Rail. Out of these, 8 trains have already arrived, and the production and inspection of the remaining two trains are in the final stages.
