Earlier, both Raut and Awhad had expressed their displeasure at the idea of external mediation in the matter, questioning Trump's role and implying that the ceasefire may have diluted India’s firm stance. Reacting sharply, Mahajan said their comments were unwarranted and insensitive.
“What else do Sanjay Raut and Jitendra Awhad have to do?” Mahajan said. “Do they want war to happen? Do they want massive destruction and loss of life? We did what had to be done. Our forces went in, struck hard, and destroyed the terrorist bases. Now, if someone has mediated and helped bring about a ceasefire, that should be seen as a positive outcome.”
He added, “What Pakistan and the terrorists did was shameful and cowardly. They invited war through their actions. But saying that war must happen and people must die — what kind of thinking is that?”
Mahajan’s remarks come amid a broader political debate on India’s response to cross-border terrorism and the role of diplomacy in de-escalating military tensions.
