The appointment was officially announced by Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department, Rajesh Kumar, through a government order issued earlier this week.

Naval Kishore Ram, a 2008 batch IAS officer from Bihar, brings with him a wealth of administrative experience. He began his civil service journey in 2007 and started his career at the Nanded District Collectorate. Over the years, he has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Yavatmal Zilla Parishad and as District Collector in both Beed and Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad).

He earned state-wide recognition for his effective handling of the garbage crisis in Sambhajinagar. Later, as Pune District Collector, his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was widely appreciated for being strategic, responsive, and people-focused.

Naval Kishore Ram was subsequently appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi. He is now returning to Maharashtra from central deputation to resume service in the state administration.

His appointment as PMC Commissioner is seen as a positive move for Pune, given his deep understanding of local governance and proven commitment to citizen-centric administration. His familiarity with the city and prior administrative roles are expected to benefit ongoing urban development and civic initiatives.
