The case, which has shocked the local community, was registered at Adgaon Police Station. According to police officials, the woman had a love marriage with Bhupesh Pathak, but after the wedding, she was subjected to repeated harassment and caste-based abuse by her in-laws, including her mother-in-law and sister-in-law.
Assistant Police Commissioner Padmaja Badhe provided details of the investigation. “This incident occurred in 2024, when the woman was forced to undergo an abortion at home. She has stated that she was administered three pills and a saline drip as part of the procedure. These facts came to light during our inquiry,” she said.
The police have arrested four individuals in connection with the case: the victim’s husband Bhupesh Pathak, his mother, sister, and father. All four have been remanded to three days of police custody.
Charges have been filed under multiple sections of the law. Bhupesh Pathak faces charges under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and abortion-related offenses. His parents and sister have been booked under sections related to caste-based discrimination and illegal abortion.
The case highlights the ongoing social issues surrounding inter-caste marriages and gender-based violence in India. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and further details will be revealed as the case progresses.
