India's response always responsible, remains so, S Jaishankar tells US

As tensions escalate along the India-Pakistan border, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has made it clear to the United States that India will maintain a restrained and responsible stance despite repeated provocations from across the border.

A war-like atmosphere has developed between the two nations, with the Pakistani army reportedly engaging in continuous cross-border firing and deliberately targeting civilian areas. On the night of May 9, Pakistan attempted a major offensive using drones, missiles, and fighter jets in an effort to damage Indian military installations. The Indian Armed Forces responded swiftly, intercepting and neutralizing most of the incoming threats.

In the midst of the heightened conflict, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephonic conversation with Minister Jaishankar on Saturday. Following the discussion, Jaishankar shared an update on social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter), stating:

“This morning, I had a discussion with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He emphasized the importance of initiating dialogue to de-escalate tensions. I conveyed that India’s approach has always been restrained and responsible — and it will remain that way.”

Secretary Rubio’s outreach to India comes after he also engaged in talks with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir. The diplomatic efforts reflect growing international concern over the escalating situation in South Asia. Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump recently expressed his desire to see a swift resolution to the conflict.

As the situation unfolds, global attention remains fixed on the region, with calls for peace tempered by India’s firm message of self-restraint backed by preparedness.
