After being repeatedly overlooked by selectors since his last international appearance in 2023, Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has made a decisive career move by joining Nottinghamshire for a short county cricket stint in England. The 26-year-old has signed a two-match deal with the club, marking his county cricket debut.
Nottinghamshire Cricket Club officially confirmed the signing, stating that Ishan will feature in two County Championship matches, replacing South African player Kyle Verreynne.
Ishan’s first match is scheduled against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge on June 22, followed by a clash against Somerset at Taunton on June 29. This stint offers him the perfect opportunity to refine his red-ball cricket skills and gain valuable experience in English playing conditions.
Speaking about his decision, Ishan said, “Playing in the English county circuit is a great opportunity for me to test and develop my game further. I am looking forward to learning from this new challenge.”
Known for his aggressive batting style and sharp wicketkeeping, Kishan had been out of favor in India’s Test setup. With no recent selections, he has taken this step to enhance his form, fitness, and visibility in competitive cricket.
The move is being seen as a strategic effort by Ishan to return to form and make a strong case for his comeback into the national squad. Fans and analysts are keenly watching his performance in these two crucial fixtures.
