Konkan Railway, a vital link in the Indian Railways network, runs from Roha in Maharashtra’s Raigad district to Thokur in Karnataka, passing through the scenic Konkan region. Known for its lush landscapes, coastal views, and challenging terrain, this route is a favorite among travelers — but it is also prone to monsoon-related disruptions such as landslides and flooding.

This year, Konkan Railway officials have stated that additional safety measures have been implemented, particularly aimed at tackling the monsoon's natural challenges. A detailed monsoon safety and disaster management plan is now in place.

Key Precautions for Passenger and Staff Safety:

  1. Monsoon Special Schedule:
A revised train schedule will be implemented between June 10, 2025, and October 31, 2025, to accommodate weather-related delays and safety measures.

  2. Speed Restrictions:
Trains will operate at reduced speeds, especially in ghat and tunnel sections. A speed limit of 40 kmph has been enforced in vulnerable areas.

  3. Deployed Workforce:
Over 650 employees and officers have been stationed along the route for round-the-clock monitoring and emergency response.

  4. Maintenance Vehicles:
Railway maintenance vehicles have been positioned at nine strategic locations where landslides are most likely to occur.

  5. Emergency Medical Support:
A special medical van and an accident prevention team have been deployed at Verna, Goa, to provide immediate medical assistance if required.

  6. Monitoring Systems:
Rain gauge systems have been installed at 10 locations, while flood warning systems are active at three high-risk river bridges.

  7. Operational Guidelines:
Motormen have been instructed to adhere strictly to the speed limit and reduce speeds further in conditions of low visibility due to heavy rainfall.

Despite the challenging terrain, the Konkan Railway has not recorded any major accidents in the last decade — a testament to its robust disaster preparedness and ongoing vigilance. Officials emphasized that passenger safety remains the top priority and that no compromises will be made even as they strive to maintain timely services.

With these initiatives, Konkan Railway reaffirms its commitment to ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for all travelers this monsoon.
