India won its first gold medal after Parneet Kaur and Kushal Dalal clinched the compound mixed team archery title at the FISU World University Sports Championship 2025 held in Essen, Germany on Friday. This event will also be played at the LA 2028 Summer Games, marking the Olympic debut of compound archery.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) tweeted, "Khelo India athletes Kushal Dalal and Praneet Kaur won India's first gold medal at the World University Games 2025. This mixed duo defeated archery powerhouse South Korea in the compound mixed team final."
The Indian duo scored an impressive 157 points, defeating the Republic of Korea's Park Yerim and Seunghyun Park by three points in a highly competitive final match. By halftime, the South Korean team had taken a 78-77 lead. However, the Indian duo consistently took the lead in the last two stages. This was India's third compound archery medal at the 2025 World University Sports Championship held in Rhine-Ruhr.
