A major landslide has occurred near Munshithang on the Lachen-Chungthang road and Lema/Bob on the Lachung-Chungthang road in North Sikkim. The area is receiving continuous heavy rains, making the roads extremely dangerous. Due to this, the roads have also been closed.
Although the main road leading to Chungthang is now open, it is dangerous to travel on it at night due to heavy rains. Meanwhile, more than 1000 tourists are reportedly stranded in Lachung due to heavy rains and road closures.
As a precautionary measure, the Permit Cell of Sikkim Police has decided to stop issuing permits for North Sikkim from tomorrow.
