In a landmark move aimed at simplifying access to land-related documents, the Maharashtra Land Records Department has announced that citizens will now be able to receive crucial land documents such as the Satbara (7/12) extract, mutation (change) records, and e-records directly on WhatsApp. This initiative promises to bring much-needed relief to farmers and landowners across the state who have long struggled with bureaucracy and long queues at Setu offices.
Until now, individuals had to make repeated visits to district Setu offices, often enduring hours-long waits or paying extra to middlemen, just to access documents related to their land ownership. Recognizing this hardship, the state government has taken a digitization-friendly step to streamline the process and reduce corruption, delays, and inconvenience.
Citizens will need to visit the Mahabhoomi portal to register their mobile number and pay a one-time registration fee of ₹50.
After registration, individuals will be required to upload proof of land ownership.
Once verified, all documents related to their land — including Satbara extracts, mutation records, and e-records — will be accessible via WhatsApp.
In addition, any future updates or changes in the land records will also be automatically sent to the registered WhatsApp number.
This initiative is expected to curb document fraud and manipulation, while also ensuring timely access to accurate records. By leveraging a widely used platform like WhatsApp, the government aims to make land services more efficient, transparent, and citizen-friendly.
Speaking on the launch, Sarita Narke, Additional Commissioner of Jamabandi (Pune), said, “This service will initially be rolled out on a pilot basis from July 15 and will be expanded across the entire state from August 1.”
With Maharashtra taking the lead in land records digitization, the move is likely to benefit millions of farmers, landowners, and rural citizens who depend on these documents for everything from bank loans to legal verification.
This digital transformation marks a crucial step in empowering citizens, especially farmers, by giving them direct access to their land data at their fingertips, saving both time and money.
